Adolescent Resource Center Update

The summer activity of 2011 for Adolescent Resource Center (ARC) called for the adolescents developing their own literature. The objective was to help the adolescents broaden their scope of understanding towards themselves and others.

Fifteen adolescents from surrounding areas and nearby villages of HIHT participated in the workshop over the month of June. They gave their contributions for preparing a booklet on adolescent related issues titled Jeevan ka Pehla Padav (The First milestone of Life).

The booklet was written in Hindi and hand sketched by the participants covering issues like anger, jealousy, attraction, nutrition, the importance of sports and why one should cultivate hobbies.

The group's views were also recorded as a video to complement the literature. The preparation of the booklet and video CD shall be compiled together as a resource material prepared by the adolescents for the adolescents.

In due course of its preparation the group was able to overcome their hesitation and openly discuss their issues along with the expectations of their parents/teachers/elders.
