Since its inception, the Rural Development Institute (RDI), Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust, has believed that education is the strongest foundation for change. For children from marginalized communities—many of whom are orphans, belong to single-parent households, or come from families struggling to make ends meet—continuing education often remains a distant dream. RDI’s Scholarship Program was born to bridge this gap, ensuring that no child is denied the right to learn simply because of financial hardship.
From the bustling plains to the most remote mountainous regions of Uttarakhand, RDI has reached out to children who might otherwise have slipped through the cracks. These children have been supported through every stage of their schooling, allowing them not just to attend classes but to grow with confidence, dignity, and hope. Over the years, more than 800 children have benefitted from this program.
What makes this initiative special is not just the number of children supported, but the stories of transformation behind each scholarship. Many of these children, once uncertain about their future, have gone on to pursue professional courses in nursing, teaching, medical sciences, government services, and defense. Today, they are proud breadwinners, supporting their families, and contributing to their communities. Many have even started families of their own, ensuring that the cycle of poverty and hardship is broken for generations to come.
The scholarship is more than financial aid—it is a message to each child that their dreams matter, their efforts are valued, and their potential is limitless. For parents, many of whom toil in fields, forests, or small daily-wage jobs, this support is a lifeline. It eases the constant worry of school fees, uniforms, and books, replacing it with pride as they see their children thrive in classrooms.
This September, during the RDI Founder’s Day celebrations (20–21 September), the spirit of this program shone once again. In a moving ceremony, Dr. Vijay Dhasmana, Hon’ble President, Swami Rama Himalayan University, handed over scholarships to children for the academic year 2025–26. His words reminded everyone present that education is not only a tool for personal growth but also the cornerstone of societal progress. He emphasized that these scholarships would not only ease the financial burden on families but also motivate children to aim higher, achieve their academic goals, and contribute meaningfully to society. A total of 126 children have received scholarship for the current year.
For the children receiving the scholarships, the moment was filled with joy and pride. With bright smiles and hopeful eyes, they stood as living proof of what collective compassion and commitment can achieve. For RDI, it was yet another step in a long journey of service—empowering communities, one child at a time.
The Scholarship Program reflects the Institute’s larger mission: to stand with the rural and marginalized, ensuring that every child, no matter their circumstances, has the chance to learn, grow, and shape a better future. It is a testament to the belief that when you invest in a child’s education, you invest in an entire community’s progress.
